Top 3 Reasons to Schedule Family Photos
Hello, my friends!
Life flashes by at the speed of light. We get busy. Tragedy strikes. The kids have all of these amazing, fun, time-sucking activities that they participate in. We just lose track of time and next thing we know, it’s been 2, 3, 4 or more years since your last family picture! Say it isn’t so!
Then, you think, well why do we even need those anyway? It’s fine. We have little snapshots here and there. No biggie.
I will have to disagree with you, my friend…and not just because it’s my profession. Here are my top 3 reasons you should, at least once a year, have your family’s photographs professionally taken.
1 - The Complete Family Picture
We take selfies like they are going out of style. We also take pictures of our loved ones at funny or amazing times, but guess who is not in the picture…the person taking the picture. If we decide to get in the picture, too, we have to contort ourselves into various poses to try to achieve a somewhat recognizable and non-awkward photograph that we can share with our peers on social. I mean, nose hairs anyone? LOL!
Investing in family pictures once a year allows everyone to relax and have their family captured together, whole, and complete. If you are blessed with an amazing photographer, you will even have the connection between your family members captured, which is even better!
2 - Captured Memories You Will Treasure
It won’t be long and your littles will no longer be little. They will grow up, graduate, move out, and begin a family of their own. Though 18 or 22 years can seem like a long time, in the grand scheme of things, it is really just a long chapter in our book of life.
We become empty nesters. We find new activities to fill our time, while missing our babies. We think back on all of our many adventures and find ourselves looking back through the old photographs of our family.
I love looking at the growth from one year
to the next…she really grew that year, he lost his front teeth. Seeing the changes sparks memories to relive and fills your heart with joy at being given the opportunity to
be their parent.
3 - This Is Not for You!
This isn’t about you, honestly. Really and truly, family pictures are not really for you. They are for your children and their children.
Think back to when you found an old family photograph of you and your mom, or your mom and her mom. Think back to the emotions you felt in finding that treasure…the overwhelming joy at seeing those who may have passed away, the memories they may spark, the connection you feel. This is what regularly scheduling photography sessions will achieve for your children and their future families.
Here is an example. This is my mom and me. She just sent this picture to me this week, and may well give me a piece of her mind when she sees I shared it (love you, Mom!). I just love this picture. It is a true treasure. This comes from a time when pictures were not taken liberally, and family pictures were rare. I love it!
Thank you for reading, friends! If you find yourself thinking you need to schedule a family session, and need a photographer, let’s connect! I would love to capture your treasured people!
