Smash Cake Session | Everleigh turns 1!

What in the heck is a smash cake session? What’s the big deal? Do people really do these things? Ok, my friend. Let me explain.

A smash cake session is a special photography session to help celebrate baby turning O-N-E. These sessions are meant for the family of baby only as a way to capture their baby in a non-chaotic setting. It allows parents to relax and participate with baby in the celebration versus when they have the official party and have to attend to all of the details, guests, and baby’s needs.

It’s a big deal because, Hey!, baby has been earth-side for one whole year! Do people do these things? Absolutely! In fact, it is growing more and more popular. Each one is different, from the theme to the baby and the baby’s reactions.

What can you expect when you book a session? We will go over your theme for the session. If you don’t have one in mind, we will come up with something together to ensure you get a set you love. We will go over instructions for preparing for your session. Cake options will be covered. Outfit reminders will be covered. And then, we go over the planned flow of the session.

I love to start with high chair photographs. This allows me to focus on details like hands, feet, eyelashes, and other detail shots. We then move to the set and get a few of baby before the smashing takes place. I grab a photo of the cake before decimation (LOL!!) and then we allow baby to destroy that beautiful bakery masterpiece! And then, finally, we finish the session with an adorable fruit bath complete with bubbles. No reason for you to take home a sticky baby!
